Brooklyn-based A.D. Wells sings of heartbreak and Hollywood in his debut LP The West Hollywood Broken Hearts Club. The subdued instrumentals and ultra-lofi recordings transmit a raw, personal experience. Combining simple guitar, intimate vocals, and soft keyboard sounds, Wells is able to create a feeling that is both melancholy yet optimistic.
The drums and keys on the record come from two budget Casio keyboards, the SA-46 and the CT-625. The rhythm presets are charming and danceable. The electric organ and piano sounds lull the listener in dreamy arpeggios and airy chords. Simple guitar and bass riffs travel over the mix while A.D.’s quiet but potent vocals complete the bittersweet emotion.
